Review: Owl Water Decals from the Born Pretty Store

Products sent to me for review

I was instantly sold when I saw these owl decals on the Born Pretty Store – how cute are they!?

These are similar to those temporary tattoos you got with your gum when you were a child, except they’re for your nails. Fortunately, I already knew how to use these (or at least I thought I did), because the instructions on the back are written in jibberish. The words are English, but the phrasing leaves a lot to be desired.

Anyways, I thought I had the routine down: cut the image out, dunk it in water for 10-20 seconds, apply it to your nails while patting the back with a paper towel and ultimately removing the backing, leaving the image behind. Well, it did leave the image behind, it was just all faded and colorless.

At first I thought, maybe I’d held them too long in the water, or they were just bad. Turns out, I was turning them the wrong way around. While I applied them like temporary tattoos, I found out I was supposed to slide them OFF the backing paper first in order to turn them the right way.

Off with this: Round no. 2.

This time I slid it off the backing paper, and I could easily see, that this is what I did wrong before. However, applying it like you’re supposed to is. not. easy. The images kept ‘folding up’ before I had a chance to place them on the nails. I had six tries with the pink owls, and I managed to get something decent out of three of those tries – two on my left hand and one on my right.

Now, I realize that this might be a trial-and-error kind of thing, and that it simply did not work for me because it was the first time I’ve tried it, because other reviews of these are very positive. Perhaps it is also this particular pattern, that is hard to work with. I have another pattern that I’m going to try my luck with, so I’m not completely done with the water decal-thing, but this was definitely not a success.

You can buy the owls here, and if you use the discount code BOTX31 at checkout, you get 10 % off the entire website!

Oh, and if you’re interested to know, I stamped some white flowers over the pink polish and then covered those with another layer of pink to create the effect on the two other nails.

As I said, it might be easier for others, and they’re super cheap, so I wouldn’t advise against other people trying 😉

Those owl decals looks so good and moreover, I’ve never tried decals before as I always stick onto just nail varnish alone and how easy is it to try onto nails?
