31DC2016: Wrap Up

I made it all the way through the 31 day nail polish challenge. I did it in a little under three months instead of one, but that’s okay, because somtimes that’s just how life is. I’m really glad I decided to take a break at day 17 and spread the rest of the challenge out, because that left me with more inspiration and patience for the remaining manicures, and the result is much better for it.

Here you can see all of the 31 manicures – if you want to take a closer look at one of them, the headings are links to the original posts.

31DC2016: Day 31 Honor Nails You Love

And with this mani, I conclude the 31 day nail polish challenge of 2016 – well, not completely, because I’m going to do a round-up post just like the previous two years (2014 2015).

I am a huge fan of Juli’s, and her fern leaf manicure is a perfect example of why I like her so much, so those are the nails I am honoring today. In fact, I also did one of her manis for last years challenge – the fall leaves mani for day 30.

31DC2016: Day 30 Inspired by a tutorial

Today, I actually got to try out TWO tutorials. Unfortunately, I ripped a tear in my middle finger nail, so I’m currently testing out if the tea-bag fix actually keeps the tear in place. I’ll let you know about that.

The other tutorial I got to try are these cool newspaper nails. In hindsight, I wish I’d gone for a nude base color rather than white because that would make them look more like newspapers. I also gotta say – it is really hard not moving the news paper around while you’re rubbing it on the nail, so these came out a little messy.

Oh, and one more thing. If you decide to recreate this, don’t let your top coat dry completely, then the ink won’t stick to the nail. You want your top coat to be slightly tacky.

31DC2016: Day 29 Inspired by the supernatural

My supernatural nails are inspired by angel wings – very abstract, but I’m actually really pleased with how this came out. The pictures don’t really show the beauty that these had in real life – you can’t really see all of the glitter that the wings have.

Polishes used:

  • Maybelline – Nearly Black (black)
  • Wet n Wild – Flying Colors (white)
  • Depend – 363 (blue pearly shimmer)

31DC2016: Day 28 Inspired by a flag

The flag-prompt.. Hm… Not exactly my favorite prompt of the challenge.

My geography-loving boyfriend suggested me some of the flags he thought were cool, and I chose one of those for this entry – the flag of Trinidad and Tobago.

31DC2016: Day 27 Inspired By Artwork

One good thing about dragging out the challenge is that, usually at this point in the 31 days, my patience is running thin. That means I become less inspired and more sloppy with the nail art because I just wanna get it over with.

This time around, I’m still doing it in a rather condensed time frame, but I definitely have more patience for each mani.

That’s also why I decided to tackle one of the big fellows within the nail art community – the four seasons painting. (There’s a tiny signature in the bottom right corner, but it’s too small for me to read, but anyway, that’s where credit for this is due.)

31DC2016: Day 26 Inspired by a pattern

I was playing The Sims the other day, and I was decorating my house when I noticed that a lot of the wallpaper options are damask wallpaper. I’d just had my stamping plates out for day 25, and I thought, “don’t I have a stamping plate with a damask image on it?”, and I do!

So that is what today’s nails are – damask inspired.
